Advanced Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in Bedford, TX
Advanced Training. Comprehensive Evaluation. Individualized Rehabilitation.
At Bortnick Therapy Enterprises, I provide individualized physical therapy for active individuals, veterans, active-duty military personnel, first responders, and others dealing with complex or persistent musculoskeletal conditions.
I am currently completing an advanced fellowship in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy, building upon my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree through intensive postprofessional education in orthopedic evaluation, manual therapy, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based rehabilitation.
This advanced training allows me to approach each patient with a deeper understanding of the factors that may contribute to pain, movement limitations, and impaired function—not simply treat the location where symptoms occur.
My goal is to understand why you are having difficulty improving and develop a rehabilitation plan based on your individual presentation, goals, and physical demands.
When Physical Therapy Hasn’t Worked Before
I frequently work with patients who have already tried physical therapy or other treatments without achieving the improvement they expected.
If you have been told that your imaging does not explain your symptoms, received the same exercises repeatedly, experienced only temporary relief, or continued to have pain despite following your treatment plan, you may benefit from a more comprehensive evaluation.
Previous unsuccessful physical therapy does not necessarily mean physical therapy cannot help. Sometimes the problem is not a lack of effort—it may be that the underlying contributors to your symptoms have not been fully identified or addressed.
Rather than simply repeating previous treatments, I take the time to understand your history, examine how you move, identify relevant impairments, and determine what may be contributing to your symptoms.
Advanced Clinical Reasoning for Complex Musculoskeletal Conditions
Orthopedic manual physical therapy fellowship training emphasizes advanced clinical reasoning and the ability to evaluate the musculoskeletal system as an interconnected whole.
Rather than focusing exclusively on the area that hurts, I consider how different factors may interact, including:
- Joint mobility
- Muscle strength and endurance
- Movement patterns
- Neural mobility and sensitivity
- Coordination and motor control
- Tissue capacity and load tolerance
- Previous injuries
- Training demands
- Occupational requirements
- Recovery and activity levels
This does not mean assuming that every symptom has a complicated explanation. It means performing a thorough evaluation and using the findings to determine what is most relevant to your individual condition.
Treatment may include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, movement retraining, education, and progressive exposure to the activities you need and want to perform.
What Does Fellowship Training Mean?
An orthopedic manual physical therapy fellowship is advanced postprofessional education focused on developing specialized knowledge and clinical skills in orthopedic and manual physical therapy.
I am currently completing this fellowship training. I have not yet graduated from the fellowship program and therefore do not represent myself as fellowship-trained.
My ongoing fellowship education includes advanced training in areas such as:
- Orthopedic examination and evaluation
- Differential diagnosis and clinical reasoning
- Manual therapy
- Spine and extremity conditions
- Neuromusculoskeletal examination
- Therapeutic exercise
- Movement assessment
- Evidence-based clinical decision-making
- Management of complex musculoskeletal conditions
I pursue this additional training because I believe excellent physical therapy requires continued development beyond entry-level education.
The purpose of this training is ultimately not the credential itself—it is to become a better clinician for the patients I serve.
A Trauma-Informed, Evidence-Based Approach
Effective physical therapy requires more than technical skill.
My approach is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and holistic. I recognize that previous injuries, medical experiences, occupational demands, stress, expectations, and individual experiences with pain can all influence rehabilitation.
Trauma-informed care does not mean assuming that trauma is responsible for someone’s symptoms. It means creating an environment in which patients are respected, informed, involved in decisions about their care, and given appropriate control throughout the rehabilitation process.
I explain what I find during the evaluation, why it may matter, and how it relates to your treatment plan.
The goal is to make rehabilitation something we work through together—not something that simply happens to you.
Physical Therapy for Active Individuals
For many of my patients, the goal is bigger than simply reducing pain.
They want to return to the activities that make them feel like themselves.
That may mean:
- Returning to strength training
- Running
- Hiking
- Recreational sports
- Outdoor activities
- Physically demanding work
- Caring for family
- Returning to previous fitness levels
- Training without constantly worrying about reinjury
Your rehabilitation should reflect what you actually need to do outside of the clinic.
I use progressive rehabilitation to help patients build the strength, mobility, coordination, and tolerance necessary to return to meaningful activities.
Physical Therapy for Veterans, Military Personnel, and First Responders
I have a particular interest in working with people whose occupations and lifestyles require physical capability.
Bortnick Therapy Enterprises provides physical therapy for veterans, active-duty military personnel, first responders, and their families, as well as active individuals throughout Bedford and the surrounding Mid-Cities communities.
These patients may have unique physical demands related to military service, emergency response, occupational tasks, physical training, or maintaining readiness.
For these individuals, rehabilitation may mean more than becoming comfortable during everyday activities. It may mean being able to:
- Run
- Lift and carry equipment
- Perform physically demanding occupational tasks
- Return to training
- Prepare for a physical fitness assessment such as the AFT and ACFT
- Return to duty
- Maintain physical readiness
- Participate fully in family and recreational activities
My goal is to build rehabilitation around the demands you need to meet in real life.
Why Choose Bortnick Physical Therapy?
At Bortnick Therapy Enterprises, I combine advanced orthopedic manual physical therapy training with individualized rehabilitation and a patient-centered approach.
I am particularly interested in working with patients who:
- Have complex or persistent musculoskeletal conditions
- Have not improved with previous physical therapy
- Have experienced recurring injuries
- Want a more comprehensive evaluation
- Need rehabilitation that accounts for their work or training demands
- Want to return to an active lifestyle
- Value hands-on treatment combined with active rehabilitation
I don’t believe every patient needs more exercises, more stretching, or more passive treatment.
Sometimes the most important step is determining why previous treatment didn’t work.
That starts with a thorough evaluation, a clear explanation of what we find, and a treatment plan designed around your goals.

Are you fellowship-trained?
I am currently completing an advanced fellowship in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy. I have not yet completed the fellowship program and therefore do not currently represent myself as fellowship-trained.
What is the difference between fellowship training and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree?
A Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree is the entry-level professional degree required to practice as a physical therapist in the United States. Fellowship training is additional postprofessional education focused on developing advanced knowledge and clinical skills within a specific area of physical therapy practice.
Can physical therapy help if I’ve already tried physical therapy?
Yes. Previous unsuccessful physical therapy does not necessarily mean that additional physical therapy will be ineffective. Different evaluation findings, contributing factors, treatment strategies, or rehabilitation goals may lead to a different approach.
A comprehensive evaluation can help determine what may have been missing from previous treatment and whether another approach is appropriate.
Do you treat chronic pain?
Yes. I work with patients experiencing persistent or recurrent musculoskeletal pain. Treatment begins with an individualized evaluation to identify relevant physical impairments and contributing factors and to determine an appropriate rehabilitation strategy.
Do I need to be an athlete to see an orthopedic manual physical therapist?
No. Orthopedic manual physical therapy can be appropriate for people with many different activity levels and musculoskeletal conditions. Treatment is based on your individual examination and goals.
Do you work with veterans and first responders?
Yes. Bortnick Therapy Enterprises provides physical therapy for veterans, active-duty military personnel, first responders, and their families. Rehabilitation can be tailored to the physical requirements of military service, emergency response, occupational tasks, training, and everyday life.
